City of Independence Police Department announces line of duty death

INDEPENDENCE, Mo. – At approximately 1:30 p.m. today, February 29, 2024, a civil processor server with Jackson County was issuing legal documents at a residence near Elsea Smith and Bundschu Rd. Soon after arriving at the scene, shots fired were reported. Officers arrived on the scene to assist. Officers sustained injuries from gunshots upon arrival. Officers and the civil processor server were transported in critical condition to Centerpoint Medical Center, where Officer Cody Allen and a civil processor server with Jackson County, Drexel Mack, were later pronounced dead. Two other officers are recovering at Centerpoint Medical Center. Further information will be released at a later time.
