Living a Healthy Life with Chronic Conditions, Tuesdays, January 23 – February 27, from 9:15 A.M. - 11:30 A.M. Registration Required. Register by January 16, 2024 by calling The Palmer Center at 816-325-6200. Free for Adults 60+ 

Living with a chronic condition such as diabetes, arthritis, heart disease, pain, or anxiety can be a daily challenge, but it doesn’t have to be. Learn how to better manage symptoms by learning important self-management skills and techniques such as action planning, healthy eating, and communicating with your healthcare team. This 6-week class is FREE for adults 60+ thanks to grant funding through Missouri Association of Area Agencies on Aging. Living a Healthy Life with Chronic Conditions is funded in part by an award to the Mid-America Regional Council through Patient Protection and Public Health Fund grant no. 90CSSG0043-01-00 by the US Department of Health and Human Services, Administration for Community Living. 

Bird Bingo, Tuesday, January 9, at 10:30 a.m. 

Play a bird version of bingo with a representative from George Owens Nature Center. There will be prizes and fun bird facts!  

Tai Chi for Arthritis, Tuesdays & Thursdays, 1/16/24 - 3/7/24 from 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. Registration required. Call 816-325-6200 to register by January 3, 2024. Free for Adults 60+ 

Tai Chi for Arthritis for Fall Prevention is an evidence-based program designed by Dr. Paul Lam and a team of medical experts and Tai Chi Masters. This 8-week program uses the Sun style of Tai Chi and is easy to learn, safe, and effective. Tai Chi for Arthritis is partly funded by an award to the Mid-America Regional Council through Patient Protection and Public Health Fund grant no—90CSSG0043-01-00 by the US Department of Health and Human Services, Administration for Community Living.

Disaster Preparedness for Older Adults, Thursday, January 11, at 10:30 a.m.  

Join us for a free Disaster Preparedness Seminar from UMKC and AmeriCorps called “Senior’s Positive Impact on Community Emergencies.” Learn how to prepare for the most common emergencies. 

Travel Program Preview, Thursday, January 11, at 1:00 p.m. 

Join us for an afternoon of meeting fellow travelers, learning about scheduled trips, refreshments, and door prizes! Bring your calendar so you can start “saving the dates” for upcoming tours. 

Stop the Bleed, Thursday, 1/18/24 at 10:00 a.m. 

This one-hour training will teach you lifesaving steps to take if someone is bleeding severely. Co-sponsored by Research Medical Center.  

National Frontier Trails Museum Visit, Thursday, January 25, at 12:30 p.m. 

Learn about the rich history of America’s principle pioneering trails during this free group visit to the National Frontier Trail Museum. Registration required. Call 816-325-6200 to register by January 22.  

Snowballs and More, Friday, January 26, at 10:30 a.m.  

Have some winter fun with an indoor marshmallow “snowball” fight, winter craft, and refreshments.  

ThinkFirst Fall Prevention, Wednesday, January 31, at 10:00 a.m. 

This valuable one-hour class taught by a Trauma Injury Prevention Educator from Research Medical Center teaches about fall safety, and the importance of fall prevention.  

February Events with a January Deadline:

Pickleball Tournaments, Saturday, February 3 - 60+ Women’s, Men’s, and Mixed Doubles beginning at 8 a.m. Saturday, February 10 - 18+ Women’s, Men’s, and Mixed Doubles beginning at 8 a.m.

$25 per person registration fee for each tournament. Register by January 14, 2024. Space is Limited! Call 816-325-6200 for more information.
