What is VIPS?
If you are interested in the VIPS program, one thing to keep in mind is that the VIPS are not sworn law enforcement officers. Although to be a member of the VIPS, you have to submit to the same background check as a sworn law enforcement officer, you can not affect an arrest.
Becoming a Volunteer in Police Service is a challenging and rewarding opportunity. We believe that utilizing a volunteer work force will strengthen community relations and help build strong partnerships. Volunteers are asked to provide a minimum of 5 hours of volunteer time per month to the Police Department. Volunteers are trained to supplement the police department in areas that aid the community.
