older adults preparedness

As an older adult, you may have unique needs when it comes to preparing for disasters. Locally, Emergency Management department staff partners numerous times a year with the Palmer Senior Center as well as local organizations that support our older residents to assist in planning for those needs.

FEMA recently released specific guidance on helping older adults with preparedness activities. The Take Control in 3 booklet can be very helpful for setting up plans, knowing what to gather for emergency kits and activating communication plans with your loved ones.

While those needs can vary depending on a variety of factors, the important items remain the same:

  • Make a plan
  • Build a kit
  • Stay informed

Above all, create a support system for yourself and your loved ones and have numerous ways to receive alerts and warnings.
